The pioneering cohort of 20 cadets under the Tripartite Nautical Training Award (TNTA) initiative embarked on the beginning of their training for a sea-career at a ceremony which saw the cadets personally presented with their epaulets by their respective employers. The TNTA is a joint initiative by the NTUC’s Employment and Employability Institute, Singapore Workforce Development Agency, Singapore Shipping Association (SSA), and the SMOU to encourage Singaporeans to join the maritime sector and pursue promising careers sailing onboard international vessels as seafaring officers.
SMOU Caring & Sharing With The Elderly And Industry
Some 800 elderly from amongst SMOU members and the community received auspicious red packets and food-aid parcels during the Annual Lunar New Year Luncheon. Minister Lim Hwee Hua, who presented the red packets at the luncheon, also applauded the union’s role and efforts in developing maritime manpower in Singapore.

The Maritime Manpower Singapore Conference 2009 was held on 10 July 2009 at Hilton Singaopre. The event attracted an overwhelming of 300 participants ranging from top managment and senior executives to ship management and manning companies; from ship owners and government representatives to maritime education and training institues.
