An overwhelming Response at SMOU Family Day
More than 3,400 SMOU members and families of all nationalities saw Singapore from atop onboard the Singapore Flyer on 6 July 2008, at the SMOU Annual Family Gathering.  Families enjoyed a scenic ride on the flyer and had fun when they landed, greeted with a host of activities and entertained with class acts, organised especially to make family bonding a fun-filled exciting activity.
 
US$126,000 unpaid Wages Recovered
The 22 crew aboard MV Lady Belinda welcomes assistance from SMOU and the ITF when stranded with an unseaworthy vessel and unpaid wages of 4 months. SMOU officials provided humanitarian assistance, providing food, water and even telephone cards to the distraught crew. Their ordeal ended with SMOU’s assistance in recovering a whopping US$126,000 in unpaid wages and securing the crew’s repatriation.

 

Nanjing CadetsPlus Graduates – Ready To Sail Across Oceans

Some 80 SMOU PRC Deck and Engine Cadets graduated from the Wavelink CadetsPlus programme on 19th April 2008. Their achievements were applauded at a graduation dinner attended by some 300 fellow SMOU PRC members, shipping employers and guests from the local and international maritime community.
