Terms and Conditions
- Participant must be a SMOU active member at point of participation in the Draw.
- All GIRO/New membership application must be received and approved by 30 November 2008. GIRO/Membership application after closing date will not be eligible for the Draw.
- Each eligible member shall qualify for a chance in the Draw, and additional chances based on the following basis :-
- 1 chance for every successful referral of a new member
- GIRO application - applicable for yearly (12 months) deduction only
- Computation of membership tenure applies only to the records of active SMOU members as found in the SMOU Integrated Membership System (IMS).
- A participant shall not win more than one prize.
- All prizes will be drawn during SMOU’s Mariner’s Nite on 5 December 2008. The top 3 prizes will be presented to our lucky winners during SMOU Social Nite.
- All winners will be notified by post.
- Prizes must be collected by 31 December 2008.
- SMOU’s decision on all matters relating to SMOU Membership Rewards Draw shall be final and no correspondence will be entertained.

Frequently Asked Questions
- Is the GIRO deduction on a yearly basis?
Yes, SMOU subscription is base on a yearly basis. Hence it will be a direct deduction of $117 from your preferred bank to SMOU on a yearly basis.
- How long will it take to process?
The approval from the bank takes about two months plus minus.
- How do I know if my GIRO has been approved?
Upon approval, SMOU shall notify you by post.
- When will the first payment be deducted?
Approximately one month after we notify you of your GIRO approval.
- What are the details that I need to prepare for GIRO application?
- Your SMOU particulars such as member ID and contact numbers
- Name of the account holder & account number
- The applicant’s signature must be the same as his bank’s records
- If applicant use thumbprint, the thumbprint must be clear.
- Can I sign up for GIRO if I have just paid for my subscription fee?
- Yes, sign up now to be entitled to the Lucky Draw promotion!
- However, we will not submit your GIRO form to the bank until 2 months prior to your subscription due date. Hence the deductions will only take place for your subsequent year subscription.
- In this case, we will notify you on your GIRO application status approximately one month prior to your subscription due date.
- How do I pay for my subscription fee while the GIRO application is still in the midst of processing?
During this period while your GIRO application is still processing, the payment mode for the subscription fee will have to be via cash, nets or cheque.
- How many months of my subscription fee should I pay while waiting for the GIRO to take place?
- As the GIRO process will take approximately about two months, member’s subscription will also need to be at least two months paid at the point of his/her GIRO applications. This way, there will be no disruption on your membership length during these two months before the GIRO take place and you will continue to enjoy the members’ benefits!
- For example if you are applying for GIRO in May &
- If your subscription is due in May, simply remit for a two months subscription fee of $18 while waiting for GIRO to take place in July.
- If your subscription is due in June, simply remit for one month while waiting for GIRO to take place in July.
- If you are two months or earlier before your subscription due date at the point of GIRO applications. You do not need to make any payment.
- How do I apply now?
- Click here to download the application form and submit the original copy to SMOU via post or along with the payment (if applicable, see Q9)
- You may also obtain the form over at SMOU One Stop Service counter.
- If I am in arrears, can I apply for GIRO?
- Yes, but you will have to pay for the arrears + up to two months subscription in advance for the GIRO processing time to take place so that you can continue to enjoy your membership benefits in the midst of your GIRO applications.
- Can I apply for SMOU membership and made my first payment through GIRO?
- No, the first payment for all new members has to be via cash, cheque or nets.
- Interested applicants could still sign up for the GIRO scheme & be entitled to the Lucky Draw scheme. The deductions of the GIRO will only begin to apply for the subsequent year subscription.
- Hence the notification letter on GIRO approval will only be sent to you approximately one month before the GIRO takes place.
- How do I keep track of my GIRO payments?
- Verify the deduction(s) against your bank statement or savings passbook
- If you disagree with the deducted amount or the amount to be deducted, you can contact SMOU immediately within 7 days from the deduction.
- Are there any fees charged for GIRO payment?
- There are no fees and charges for setting up a GIRO arrangement. However, for unsuccessful deductions there will be a nominal administrative fee levied by the bank.
