Singapore Maritime Officers’ Union (SMOU) has been safeguarding the interests and wellbeing of seafaring officers for over 50 years. The primary role of SMOU is to look after members’ employment and working conditions through the terms and conditions of collective bargaining agreements negotiated on behalf of members and signed with shipping companies which employ them.
SMOU's other functions are to:
- Promote good industrial relations between members and their employers.
- Improve the working conditions of members and enhance their economic and social status.
- Advance the social, cultural, recreational and educational aspirations of members.
