The Singapore Maritime Training Fund (SMTF), initiated in 2003, is a collaboration between SMOU and shipping partners with Collective Agreements to train quality officers for Singapore Flagged vessels. .

Objective of SMTF

To cater to the present and future training needs of officers serving on onboard the SMOU Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) vessels.

The Seafarers’ Provident Fund (SPF) is a savings scheme for your seafaring officers.

The benefits of SPF:

  • A savings fund for seafarers
  • A provident fund that provides financial assistance to seafarers and their families
  • A retirement fund
When can members withdraw the funds?

Members with us for more than 3 years and above can make claims when they reach the age of 50 or under certain circumstances that prevent them from working onboard ships, subjected to the approval of the Advisory Committee.

Who Contributes to SPF?

Responsible employers from shipowner & shipmanagement companies with Collective Bargaining Agreement contribute to the SPF, for the long-term welfare and well being of their seafaring officers.

This is a specially designed medical scheme offered by SMOU to protect your seafaring officers and their family.

Benefits of SMS

  • Free of charge coverage for medications, dental care, medical examinations & consultations for one Filipino and one selected dependant
  • Its hassle free , members simply present their SMOU-COCOLife Healthcare ID with the benefit card when requiring medical services.
  • Protection against medical emergencies, hospitalizations and medical treatments
  • Coverage for Ambulance service, anti-rabies, anti-venom & anti-tetanus treatment.
  • Death payment if policy is still in force.

Who can benefit?

  • This exclusive program is offered only to shipping partners with the SMOU Collective Bargaining Agreements (CBA) having the SMOU SMS clause and applies only to active seafaring Filipino members currently.

Current Coverage

  • Your seafaring officer have access to more than 3000 doctors at more than 160 clinics & 260 hospitals across Philippines & SMOU is looking into more country coverage such as China and India.

Note: The SMS is presently available only in the Philippines. SMOU is presently exploring the implementation of medical schemes in other regions.

 

SMOU provides grievance assistance, counselling and advice to both employers and employees. The degree in this grievance assistant varies and is subject to approval from the Executive Committee.
