    老船长叹:年轻国人不愿出外航海

    新加坡籍船长航海超过40年,见过无数大风大浪,包括沉船、台风、偷渡客,也曾差点遭遇恐怖分子与海盗。这名船长诺丁(66岁)是我国140名合格船长之一。当时是1971年,诺丁在源源船务旗下的货船金泉号上担任三副,货船撞上浅礁后沉船。诺丁说:“当晚我正在洗澡,突然听到一声巨响,船开始剧烈摇动,我从船舱的舷窗往外看,只看到咸蛋乱飞。当时,货船载送的就是蛋。”

    Union offers $1.2m to train seafarers

    A union overseeing the interests of seamen will give local shipping companies $1.2 million over two years to encourage them to continue training seafaring cadets. The Singapore Maritime Officers' Union will give companies $5,000 for each Singaporean trainee they employ under two training programmes.
