On 20 September, three shipping companies, Pacific International Lines, POSH Fleet Services, and Wallenius Marine Singapore, together with maritime unions, Singapore Maritime Officers' Union (SMOU) and Singapore Organisation of Seamen (SOS), signed a Memorandum of Understanding for the formation of a Company Training Committee (CTC), supported by NTUC's Employment and Employability Institute (e2i). The CTC will facilitate collaboration between unions and employers to upskill seafarers and transform businesses through acceptance, adoption and the actualisation of technology. The result is an increase in productivity and profit for companies, and at the same time a better working environment for seafarers.
In conjuction with the MOU signing were also the graduation of the TETA 4th cohort, and the investiture of the TNTA 17th cohort.
TETA-4 has just ended phase 1 of their training and will be entering their sea-going phase where they gain experience working onboard ships of their shipping employers as engineering cadets.
TNTA-17 is our fresh batch of deck cadets starting the journey at phase 1 of their training!
