Singapore Maritime Officers’ Union (SMOU) has been safeguarding the interests and wellbeing of seafaring officers for over 60 years. The primary role of SMOU is to look after the members’ employment and working conditions through the terms and conditions of collective bargaining agreements negotiated on behalf of the members and signed with the shipping companies which employ them.

SMOU's other functions include:

• Promoting good industrial relations between members and their employers.
• Improving the working conditions of members and enhance their economic and social status.
• Advancing the social, cultural, recreational and educational aspirations of members.
