It was that time of the year for recognising students’ efforts and hard work as more than 70 recipients were rewarded with SMOU and Wavelink Co-operative’s bursaries and scholarships at NTUC Downtown East on 18 September 2010.

Some $53,350 worth of bursaries and scholarships were presented to students from Primary, Secondary, ITC/ITE, Junior College, Polytechnic, and University levels. This year, in addition to the bursaries and scholarships, Wavelink Co-operative also gave away book awards to 15 outstanding students.

Fifty six recipients of the bursary awards received some $33,500 in total. With added support from the NTUC U Care Fund, the total number of awards this year were increased from nine to 14 for students who performed well at their PSLE, ‘O’ and ‘A’ levels exams. A total of $15,000 was awarded to students with outstanding academic results.

Dedicated to lifelong learning through education and self improvement, NTUC U Care has its very own “Scholarship & Bursary Top-up Scheme”. The scheme helps ease the burden on low-income members’ for forking out on their children’s education. On top of SMOU and Wavelink Co-operative Bursary and

Scholarship awards, each recipient also received a $100 Popular Book Voucher and additional amounts of $50 to $300 depending on their level of study.
